Petrosains Science Festival 2016 - Easy Sign Language - Daily Phrases, Science and Technology Vocabulary
You’ll be introduced to basic daily phrases and STEM vocab in this one-hour workshop.
Learning sign language can help improve motor skills, build communication skills and increase the ability to focus.
Combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms or body, and facial expressions, this engaging session will provide an educational experience for all.

Pouline Koh is an Academic Department Head of Creative Arts at KDU University College - a school that cultivates design practices, innovation in design and media and creative skills in performing arts. She picked up sign language from one of her hearing impaired students 7 years ago, with the intention to bring inclusiveness into the class. This experience gave her deep beliefs that differences are not barriers to teaching and learning, but the willingness to bridge that gap.
Selina Ooi is a Multimedia Designer at KDU University College. She is the first hearing-impaired student graduated with a degree in Interface Design majoring in Creative Multimedia from Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. She’s an active blogger and the founder of “Deaf Boleh! Malaysia”, a community portal news that reach out to the deaf community in Malaysia. She has been invited to give motivational talks to schools for the deaf, non-profit organisations and workshops organised by companies.

The Petrosains Science Festival is Petrosains’ initiative to provide a unified platform for communities in the fields of science and technology, such as the industry players and science academia, to come together for the common purpose of engaging and inspiring the Malaysian public, especially the younger generation, to the wonders of science and technology. The festival is similar to other such events held in major cities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, New York and Singapore, and is another step taken by Petrosains to play our role as a leading science centre and important supporting component to the country’s educational landscape. Through this Festival, we hope to further contribute to the popularizing of science to the public that combines the engaging and interactive Petrosains approach with the day-to-day relevance that industry and academia partners will bring.
